John Richardson was the third child of William Richardson & Hannah Coar (nee Beaney) born 1858 at Seaton Colliery & christened August 29th, 1858 at St Mary the Virgin, Seaham, Co Durham.
In 1861 John was with his mother, brother Thomas & sister Ellen visiting his grandmother Jane Beaney in Newbottle, Co Durham.
By 1871 John had become a miner & was living at home with his parents at William St, Dawdon, Co Durham. There were 4 brothers & 1 sister at home.
John’s father was tragically killed in the Seaham Colliery disaster of 1880.
John was not found in the 1881 census.
By 1891 John was living with his widowed mother at 3 Howarth St South, Bishop Wearmouth, Sunderland. Two brothers & 2 sisters were still at home & John was a marine engineer.
John married Caroline (Carrie) Embleton on January 19th, 1897 at Christ Church, Blackpool, Lancashire. Witnesses at the wedding were William Wildman & Edith Robinson. Caroline was born c1865 at Sunderland, the daughter of Caroline & Thomas Embleton, a journeyman blacksmith.
In 1901 Caroline was living at 20 London St, Fleetwood, Lancashire & with her at the time of the census was her widowed sister Thomeson (36) who had married Robson Walker in 1880. Again John was missing from the census – perhaps away at sea.
By 1911 John & Caroline were living at 5 Dryden Rd, Fleetwood & John was now described as a ship fitter, steam trawler owner & was an employer. He & Caroline had no children but with them at the time of the census was a ‘niece’, Caroline Thompson, aged 10. This was in fact the granddaughter of Caroline’s sister, Isabella Embleton who had married George M Atkinson. (Isabella & George’s daughter, Thomeson Isabella Atkinson had married William John Thompson & little Caroline was their daughter.)
John of 5 Dryden Rd died on November 13th, 1925 & probate of his estate was granted to widow Caroline. His effects were £421.10s.
